Accessibility Statement
How accessible helpora.uk, the portals we build and the ebooks we produce are, what we know is not yet right, and how to tell us when something blocks you.
01Our standard
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2 at level AA across this site, every portal we build, and every EPUB we produce. Accessibility is part of the scope and the acceptance criteria for a portal build, not a later fix.
02What that means in practice
- Semantic headings and landmarks, so a screen reader can navigate by structure.
- Keyboard access to everything, with a visible focus indicator.
- Text contrast of at least 4.5:1, and 3:1 for large headings and interface borders.
- Text resizable to 200% and layouts that reflow to 320px without loss of content.
- Text alternatives for diagrams, and long descriptions where a diagram carries data.
- Data tables with proper header cells, including in EPUB.
- No content that depends on colour alone, and no motion that cannot be turned off.
03Known limitations
- Some diagrams on this site describe complex processes in a single alternative text; a longer text description is being written for each.
- Scanned historical material reproduced in reference titles may lack a full text layer. Where a record depends on it, we transcribe it.
- Documents supplied by clients and published on a portal may not meet the standard before remediation; we flag these and quote for fixing them.
04Ebooks
EPUB files are produced with semantic markup, a navigable table of contents, correct reading order, page-list navigation where a print equivalent exists, and accessibility metadata so a retailer can display what the file supports. Fixed-layout formats are used only where content genuinely requires them.
05Telling us about a problem
Email hello@helpora.uk with the page or file, what you were trying to do, and the assistive technology you were using. We reply within five working days and will supply the content in an alternative format while a fix is made.
06Enforcement
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service. Public sector clients have their own duties under the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018, and we build to those where they apply.
